Akazukin Farm is located at Kakegawa City in Shizuoka Prefecture. A huge sign with Akazukin (Little Red Riding Hood), along with a small flag stands at the entrance on national road 150, so it is easy to find.
The farm cultivates strawberries, sweet potatoes, watermelons and melons, so visitors can enjoy various fruits throughout the year.
The popular event at this farm is the all-you-can-eat strawberry picking, held for seven months, from November 11th to June 1st. Soft and sweet “Akihime” strawberry, along with “Beni-hoppe,” a Shizuoka-born brand, are cultivated inside the greenhouse, which is about 20000 square meters in size.
To enjoy strawberry picking, a reservation by telephone or e-mail (either in Japanese or English) is required. An e-mail reservation must be sent a week before the visit.
From 10:00 to 13:30, the farm tends to get crowded, so visitors may have to wait, even with reservations.
The charge for the strawberry picking changes every year. Please check the farm’s official site, as it will be listed in October.
At Akazukin Farm, visitors can also enjoy harvesting melons. The charge for harvesting a whole muskmelon to take home and tasting some cut samples is 2100 yen per person.
So visit Akazukin Farm, and have some fun.
